Summer is heating up, and the veggies are growing! Shoppers at the Greene County Farmers Market on June 30 found most of what they needed to create a fresh, delicious meal. Potatoes, snap beans, and peas were quite popular as were beets and greens. Producers also had eggs, beef, honey, breads, and desserts for hungry customers.
Next week’s market on Tuesday, July 7, promises to be another great opportunity to pick up even more varieties of foods from local gardens, farms, and kitchens. Farmers expect to add onions, cabbage, broccoli, and pork to their tables. Sweet corn may even make its first appearance. Outdoor dining on the courthouse square can be enjoyed with a prepared meal served by the Masons. They will have smoked pork chops, applesauce, and baked beans.
Members of the Jefferson Garden Club have a wonderful display each market offering gardening advice and free plants while they last. Add in music by The Old Guy, Ken Paxton, for a fun time. Come to browse, shop, eat, and meet your farmers and friends at the Greene County Farmers Market on the courthouse square in Jefferson each Tuesday from 4 to 6:30 pm. ~by Patti Edwardson for the farmers market
